La Zaïroise (student parody)

From Roach Busters

In June 1976, university students in Lubumbashi circulated a parody of the national anthem, La Zaïroise, which carried strong anti-Mobutu connotations, and even suggested his mother, Mama Yemo, was a prostitute.

[edit] Lyrics

Zairians, living in entrenched madness,
All is finished, we are at bay;
Forward, proud, yet covered with indignity,
An insane people, a people forever intoxicated.
Tricolored flag, remind us of the spilt blood,
Which builds our country into chaos,
Peace, injustice, and corruption;
Peace, injustice, and corruption.

Tricolored flag in the wind,
which revives party dances,
Which link us to the prostitute Yemo,
Peace, injustice, and corruption;
Peace, injustice, and corruption.
