Championship Manager 01/02 is a football management computer game in the Sports Interactive's Championship Manager series. It was released in October 2001 exclusively for PC, and was also later released on Xbox in April 2002.

Although never particularly expanding on the graphical side, Sports Interactive included many new features along with the usual updated database. Championship Manager 01/02 implemented the new EU regulated transfer system, introduced in September 2001, and also featured a new attribute masking mode, whereby the player could only see information about footballers he/she would realistically know about (also known as a fog of war).
Other new additions included the ability to send players away for surgery, player notes, player comparisons, and improved media and board interaction.
Updates are now regularly released here.

This edition of Championship Manager included twenty six fully playable leagues, and the final official patch 3.9.68 added South Korea's K-League, its first appearance in the CM series. The full list of playable leagues in CM01/02 is as follows:

[edit] Criticisms
The 01/02 edition has not been without its critics however. Some have criticised the simple graphics, while others have complained about the difficulty (namely, the game being too easy). Another main reason for criticism was the existence of 'cheat players' - i.e. players whose abilities in the game are far greater than in real life, these players being inexpensive and very effective in game. An example of a cheat player is Tó Madeira, who is not actually a real life player. Others such as Maxim Tsigalko and the infamous 'super Greeks' were also over rated by a considerable amount.
Whilst non-real life players are considered cheating by the experienced players of CM 01/02, the "Super Greeks" and "Super Swedes" are considered perfectly fine. For example the player Kim Källström was considered to be vastly over-rated and would never amount to anything, yet recently has made a name for himself as "the Swedish Steven Gerrard."
It is also possible to cheat by appointing new managers for two teams who are due to play one another.

Many Internet communities are dedicated to CM 01/02, preferring it to the later editions, such as the Football Manager series and Championship Manager 5. A high proportion of these websites are also dedicated to editing the game, attempting to make it more up-to-date and realistic, including the update site champman0102.co.uk. December 2006 update has just been released from the forum.
