The secret history of the architect
From Kuithne
After governing his stellar empire for over 200.000 years, the architect eventually grew weary of his accomplishments and yearned for the simple life he had enjoyed on Kuithne, which had maintained its medieval society by the nostalgic wish of the architect, prior to his enterprise.
So he set about accomplishing this by leaving the emperor's seat and going back to kuithne to live as a hermit. He shielded his presence by powerful magics and ensured his safetey by setting up undetectable wards that would prevent any harm from coming to him. He had brought the Star of Zina with him to keep it from falling into the wrong hands. Then he erased his own memory so that everything further back than 30 years would be a haze to him and set about enjoying a blissful life of unknowing simplicity.
He did set up some emergency mechanisms. He installed an order dedicated to preserving the history of kuithne and his life exactly as it had and would come to pass. They were charged with remaining secret and uninvolved with the world until the day he dissolved the order. Only they would know he lived on Kuithne and only the combined knowledge of the three heads of the order would reveal his identity and location, should a cosmic crisis every require his presence. Likewise, once every 50 years, he would recover his memory fully for one week to survey the state of the world and maintain contact with the order he instituted.
Eventually, Jinae managed to find the architect through the order who agreed the interstellar war constituted a cosmic emergency and the architect passed on the Star of Zina for her to put things in order before resuming his mundane life, but not before erasing Jinae's mind of the existence of the order and his true identity.
That it was to be Kuithne that was the choice of the genque to watch over owes indirectly to the architect's hidden presence on the planet. It is his defences that keeps Kuithne safe in eye of the galactic flowstorm that would otherwise have obliberated the planet. Only Jinae knows he lives (or lived) on the planet, but has no clue of his whereabouts or identity. She has discovered the presence of the order he founded, but is unaware that it maintains ties with the architect every 50 years. Everybody else are limited to pure speculation about the fate of the architect when he left the empire.
Today the architect lives in a secluded valley about a day's walk from the local village. His wards subtly alter the minds of all who enter, so as to prevent them from ever questioning the timeless presence of the hermit in the valley and hostile intruders from ever finding their way to him. His wards are so powerful, even the genque, the only ones with the lifespand and vision to have noticed an immortal hermit lives in this valley, are affected and have failed to notice his presence. He is not due to recover his memory and meet up with the order for another 8 years.
