Yojima Autonomous Province, is an autonomous province of KARISTAN located in southern FAWZIA. KARISTAN gained control of the area after a short war with the FAWZIAN military in which the former won victory and gained the right to govern the lands. Since then the area had been under a military junta appointed by the KARISTANI central government. Under the terms of the province's autonomy, it is required to maintain its own military force and to supply the national military with some of its members. The province is also responsible for its defense and to fund its services, the central government does not provide funding for the province. The provincial administration is administered by the DICASTRINO NOSTRANO which is headed by the Military Governor of Yojima, who often holds the rank of Brigadier General. The governor is the provincial militia force's commander in chief. However, the provincial adjutant general, the commander of the provincial militia, typically holds the rank of a full colonel. The provincial militia is organized into several independent regiments, each under the command of a Lt. Colonel, the regiments are further divided into 3 companies, commanded by a Captain. Companies are further divided into four platoons, commanded by a 2nd Lt, each platoon is composed typically of 15 to 18 soldiers each. In each regiment, at least six tanks are stationed. The provincial militia is headquartered at the AMATOIA FORT just outside of the capital. The local governance is the province is administered by the DICASTRINO NOSTRANO,and in the local subdivisions are administered by the militia officers. The capital and largest settlement in the province is RAIKUDO with a population of no less than a third of the entire population. Education is provided free to native residents until they graduated elementary. During post-elementary and collegiate education are subsidized by the provincial government, however the subsidy is only extended to the local population and does not cover foreign students. The largest higher education school in the country is the YOJIMA UNIVERSITY, the school is quiet not as good in providing education than in other nations. The people residing in the province are of various ethnic descent, but mostly are of TWAGIAN descent. The people are mostly members of the Jawarist religion but are of the liberal sect. The only political party allowed in the province is the SZALISčA STGA YOJIMA which is a part of the NATIONAL SOCIALIST PARTY. The constitution of the Yojima Autonomous Province is the highest judicial act of the province. The Home Ministry approves and creates the laws of the province. The province is mostly covered by hilly plains with several arid plains, temperature varies widely every season. During the winter, the weather could easily reach -3°C and the lands are often covered with thick snows with occasional heavy snowfall and blizzards. While during the summer months, temperature often reach 35°C at its minimum. Yojima Autonomous Province was a result of a conflict between AWZIA and KARISTAN during 2360. The conflict resulted to the complete handling of the Yojima area from Fawzian rule towards the Karistani rule. The armed conflict resulted when the Karistani military marched deep into Fawzian border, the Fawzians saw this incident as an insult toward them and declared a total war against the Karistan. AWZIA ultimately lost the war after almost three months of continuous fighting, an armistice war signed in BREGEN and FAWZIA agreed to hand the control of Yojima area to the victor. The people of YOJIMA were not happy of this arrangement, they began to recruit fighters to fight for their cause and set up a native political government. The resistance fighters began a series of attacks aimed towards the Karistani forces which killed many soldiers. The Karistani central government sent in more troops to quell the resistance, however due to the treacherous terrains of the Yojima area the Karistani forces soon found themselves cornered and under heavy fire by the resistance movement army. The Karistani saw a massive casualty number on their side far greater than that of the KARISTANI-FAWZIA War. People from the Karistan central government ordered more troops to be dispatched, however that move would just increase their casualties. The resistance movement having the advantage in the war began to issue their demands from the central government. Their demands includes; to be granted complete independence, the complete military pull out of the Karistani invasion forcer, the payment of war reparations by the Karistani government, and the recognition of their independence and sovereignty by the Karistani government. The Karistani central government did not respond to the resistance demands, they imposed drastic measures like suppressing the flow of food and other necessities bound for Yojima and the prohibition of the local inhabitants to leave the area. This measures stirs up the tensions even more, the resistance began to bomb the capital BREGEN so that their demands be met by the central government, but this incident would further increase the suppression by the Karistani military. The Karistanis began persecuting anyone who defies and objects their ways and imprisoning anyone who they believe are supporting the resistance. The people of Yojima were imprisoned in very bad conditions and suffered inhumane treatments from the soldiers. Many people in the prisons died due to starvation, diarrhea, fever, and other illnesses they contracted while they were imprisoned. Many other prisoners died due to the hard works they have to complete each day in labour camps around the Yojima area. Enrage by the extreme hardships their countrymen had to experience, the resistance movement became more violent, they bomb more and more targets in KARISTAN and began to publicly execute captured Karistani soldiers to lower their moral. Over a year had passed since the beginning of the rebellion and there is still no sign of an end for the war. More and more people were killed but a lot more had suffered. A turning point in the conflict was the large scale bombing in front of the Military High Command building which had killed several high ranking military officers and high ranking members of the National Socialist Party. After this incident the Karistani central government was forced to grant the status of autonomy to Yojima to prevent further casualties on this side. A ceasefire agreement was signed in 2363 and talks began for a framework agreement for the autonomy of Yojima. Two years of deliberations and debates were needed before the framework agreement was agreed upon by both parties. The framework granted the Yojima area the autonomy to govern itself through a Home Ministry headed by an appointed military officer of local ethnic background, to provide for the autonomy the central government declined to provide any financial aid for the province and the provincial government was forced to come up with measures to fund their government. The Karistani government also did not pay for any war reparations, but they helped in restoring many damaged properties in their pre war states. The resistance movement soon loses its civilian support and began to disband, most of its combatants joined the provincial militia to protect their homeland. As time passes by people and became used with their autonomy, as a matter of fact the people in Yojima Autonomous Province exercises more freedom than elsewhere in KARISTAN. Overtime the large number of Karistani soldiers in Yojima began to deminish, but until now there are still Karistani soldiers stationed in the province. Emigration of non-Twagians from the province increase as ethnic tensions grow to an unexpected rate between the Twagian and non-Twagian population. The tensions errupted into violent riots which killed many protesters, the provincial militia were dispatch to quell the riots but they proved unsuccessful. The mass riots became more violent and began to spread around the province, the provincial militia began to use drastic measures and began to persecute the rioters more harshly. As the non-Twagian population deminish the riots began to slow and over a few months since it started it was extinguished. The people of YOJIMA do not have a Karistani citizenship and cannot enter KARISTAN without a visa. An ambassador is usually sent to YOJIMA to represent and act on behalf of the HOOFD in the local affairs of the province. Most of the private properties in YOJIMA had been nationalized which caused the old land owners and the church to loose large amounts of money and properties. Economy prior to the annexation was never fully reestablished and it began to decline. The provincial government began to seek new ways to increase its revenues to pay for their services. In that time the government impose greater taxes to the people and began to export more of its products than what it could supply. Yojima mints and prints its own monetary currencies known as the Yojima Marks which are exchange at 2,300,000 marks for every ounce of gold. The Yojima marks performs better when compared to that of the Pepermangens. LANGUAGE: Yojiman. CURRENCY: Yojima marks divided into 50 seikals. RELIGION: Jawarism. CAPITAL: RAIKUDO.
