The Araluen National Observatory is the national astronomical agency of the Kingdom of Smaug. Aside from this function they also serve as the national meteorological and hydrological service agency of the country.

The Araluen National Observatory is in charge of the Celfi space survey which uses the Celfi Near Object Space Survey Telescope to study and discover nearby objects to Jolkein. Currently the program has been able to discover a few nearby stellar and sub-stellar objects and was able to study a multitude of other objects.
