St Paul's: Lucien Maxwell

Virgil Lucien Maxwell was born in to privilege, and as often happens the boy was raised by a succession of nannies while his parents worked and attended charity functions and the like, often forgetting they had a young son at home. Lucien rejected his first name at the age of nine, preferring his middle name. As an adult, he has dropped 'Virgil' completely, and legally.
Lucien attended private schools, until his behavior (and interest in forbidden activities such as drama and dance) finally got him kicked out. In public school, Lucien settled down and found his niche in the Drama Club. He starred in the school play both his junior and senior years, though his parents never once bothered to go to a performance.
Lucien's parents did not support his acting dreams, and refused to finance his college if he insisted on majoring in Drama. He settled for English, assuring his parents he would be a High School English teacher. As long as he kept his grades up and maintained his major, they didn't care if he acted in the school productions.
Lucien met his soul mate in college. Unfortunately, that person was also male. The two became room mates, and maintained a secret love affair for years. When Andrew tested positive for AIDS, he bravely told everyone he had cancer. Lucien never publicly announced their relationship, and stood by Andrew's side as a concerned friend. Andrew died peacefully at home one night, three years ago.
Lucien has tested HIV positive. He does not have AIDS. He may never get AIDS. He is, for the moment, perfectly healthy.
Upon graduating college, Lucien in fact worked as a High School English teacher. He also continued to act in small community theatre productions. Offered a job with Her Majesty's Theatre some years ago, Lucien decided to blow his parents off and accept. He has not seen his family since, and has called home only twice (his mother hung up on him both times).
Lucien is a popular actor, at the local level. He enjoys working the stage. He works as a waiter in a small diner when he's between shows. The diner is owned by Andrew's sister, who knew of Andrew and Lucien and supported them fully. Lucien remains close to Andrew's family, and often joins them for special gatherings, such as holidays and birthdays.
