This site details how on April 25, 1986, (1;23 a.m.) this town suffered what was the worst nuclear power disaster in the former U.S.S.R. (now Ukraine), killing more than 30 people instantaneously. The result was high concentrations of radiation within a 20-mile radius of the site. 13,500 people had to be evacuated from their homes and businesses.
