All Advanced Jobs require at least 8 years of intensive training and a large supply of knowledge, talent or determination. Those working to become a Bard, say, would technically be a Freelancer or a Thief until they reached a level of competency sufficient to be considered a bard. There will be no prodigy Paladins or Assassins or any other job appearing on this list.
All Job descriptions come with a link to one of the Ivalice video games' official skill trees. This is just for your own personal reference about the capabilities of the Job and not something you must follow to a T.
Contents |
Arcanist
The job specializes in using destructive Arcane Magic. Arcanists have a large base of spiritual power that when combined with their advanced spell portfolio make them a potent foe against any enemy. They have mediocre stamina and low evasion.
Example occupations include soldier, professor and researcher.
Arithmetician
A high-level magick class, the Arithmetician can cast most magick without exhausting their spiritual power through calculations. Calculations are done by computing complex probabilities of success and failure, and rewriting the equations to slant in their favor.
Example occupations include researcher, merchant, accountant, soldier and inventor.
Assassin
The Assassin job focuses on taking out the target as quickly and efficiently as possible, sacrificing defense for movement. They can also strike from afar with bows, in case the battle gets too busy. Their armor selection is very limited, as they can only equip lightweight armor. They are strong physically, but they also have high speed. They usually have methods of nullifying physical attacks, and a way to quickly escape from battle.
Example occupations include freedom fighter, spy and assassin.
Bard
Bards are characterized by their lightweight, colorful tunics and feathered hats. They usually fight with harps or other musical instruments. Their ability is to Sing, which allows them to sing songs that have various effects. Sometimes, they increase the stats of allies, and other times, they decrease the stats of opponents. Another ability which is attributed to the Bard is Hide, which allows them, due to their naturally low stats, to hide from battle. When hidden, they cannot perform any actions, but are practically invincible.
Example occupations include poet, minstrel and actor.
Blue Mage
They have access to certain powerful spells, known as Blue Magick, but in order to learn them, they must first be hit by the particular spell and survive it. They benefit greatly from Beastmaster allies who can control monsters, reducing the chance involved in waiting for a monster to use their skill on the Blue Mage.
Example occupations include mercenary, researcher and street crazy.
Dancer
Dancers usually equip daggers or whips. Their skill in dancing can result in both positive and negative effects on their audience, though the drawback is Dancers cannot choose what effect will be given.
Example occupations include dancer and acrobat.
Dragoon
Dragoons are special knights that wield spears and javelins. Their stats are weighted physically, and they can equip heavy armor that is usually modified to look like a dragon. Their special ability is to Jump, which allows them to perform aerial attacks. The drawback to this attack is that it takes longer due to the Dragoon having to jump and then fall on his or her opponent. Dragoons can also leech health and spiritual power from their enemies in small increments.
Example occupations include soldier, freedom fighter and mercenary.
Fighter
They wield their fists and poles and are capable of inflicting heavy damage, both ranged and point-blank. A drawback to the Fighter is its inability to equip heavy armor due to the drop in speed the extra weight would bring.
Example occupations include pit fighter, bouncer and bodyguard.
Flintlock
Specialists of distance attacks, they can inflict massive damage to far-off enemies and adjust their cannons' range, strength, attack frequency, and accuracy in the battlefield.
Example occupations include cannoneer, sky pirate and soldier.
Gadgeteer
Machinists are known for their expertise with machinery and their ability to handle various devices. Each Machinist is unique in his or her own special way. Their commonality is that most gadgeteers have lost their eyebrows at least three times from working with such volatile material.
Example occupations include technician, sky pirate and inventor.
Geomancer
Geomancers use bells as weapons, and equip light tunics as armor. Their special ability allows them to use the terrain they are fighting on as a weapon. They can also walk across lava.
Example occupations include shaman and mercenary.
Green Mage
This job protects all allies by using Green Magick. This spell portfolio consists of bestowing positive status buffs on allies and negative status ailments on foes. Green Mages wield Hammers and Maces, and are one of the most physically powerful mage classes in the game, second only to the Blue Mage.
Example occupations include soldier, mercenary, researcher and assassin.
Morpher
Morphers take the forms of captured monsters that they have defeated in battle. When morphed, they can use all of the skills the monster possessed.
Only available to Nu Mou.
Example occupations include mercenary, street performer, guard and con man.
Orator
A magick-based job, they use their voices as their main form of attack, supplemented by guns. Orators are extremely persuasive and can even temporarily talk enemies into fighting along side their own ranks for them. THEY'RE FUCKING JEDIS.
Example occupations include singer, politician and actor.
Paladin
The Paladin is a sacred knight, and a force of benevolence throughout Ivalice. Paladins can equip most armor and swords, including those which have been imbued with sacred power, or the Holy element. They can use basic White Magick spells as well and some have learned the spell Holy. A paladin's highest priority should be protecting those who cannot protect themselves.
Example occupations include soldier, freedom fighter, bodyguard and errant knight.
Red Mage
Only Viera can become Red Mages. Red Mages are very versatile, as they have are blessed with both magick and strength. They are very good mages as they can use Black, White and Green Magick.
Example occupations include mercenary, bodyguard and hunter.
Samurai
A physically based job, the Samurai has decent stats all round. However, they can also draw spirits out of Katanas which allow them certain special abilities. Doing so is a risk; drawing out its spirit may break a Katana.
Example occupations include errant knight, mercenary and hunter.
Scholar
Experts in the theory of warfare, Scholars provide battlefield support and wear academic robes with mortar boards.
Like Red Mages, Scholars have access to White and Black Magick but with a far greater range of spells from which to choose. The trade-off is a lack of offensive ability; unlike Red Mages, Scholars may not wield swords or daggers, and instead go into battle armed with tomes or grimoires.
Example occupations include professor, researcher and strategist.
Summoner
Summoners are generally known to have some of the lowest physical stats in the game and the highest magical stats. Their weapon arsenal varies, but most choose to wield rods, staffs, daggers, and sometimes whips. Summoners use special magick that allows them to call forth an Esper. Summoners also have the ability to cast either basic Black or White Magick as well.
To become a Summoner, one must journey to the shrine of an Esper and hold a vigil in its name. Should the Esper find a Summoner worthy, they will give them their glyph and become their life-long servant. At this time, the Summoner will sprout a single horn as evidence of their power. An Esper may only be in the employ of one Summoner at a time, and a Summoner may only ever summon one Esper.
Example occupations include religious figure and mercenary.
Time Mage
Time mages are classified by wearing traditional wizard's robes and pointy hats, usually with the shape of some type of heavenly body on it. Time mages have low physical stats and high magical stats. They usually equip daggers, rods, hoods, and mage robes. Their specialty is called Time and Space magick, and usually consists of spells that increase or decrease speed, such as Slow and Haste, and those that manipulate the forces of gravity, such as Gravity and Meteor.
Example occupations include researcher, professor and soldier.
Trickster
They fight using cards as weapons, allowing them to attack from a distance, and their skills primarily revolve around inflicting status ailments. Tricksters spin a web of deception, twisting the flow of battle to their advantage.
Example occupations include card sharp, con man and gambler.
