Appearance

Vince is a man of average height--5'9"--and average build. His feathery orange hair and bright yellow eyes however are not so average. Vince takes pride in his appearance and takes pretty good care of himself even if his hair may look a little messy--that's just the way it naturally behaves. Every once in awhile he'll try a little too hard and end up reeking of cologne. Sometimes he will pull his hair back in a loose ponytail, especially when he's working. His usual style of clothing is somewhere in between classy and casual. He wears clean, expensive, neutral colored suits along with brightly colored undershirts and ties, often choosing not to include the suit jacket or tie, one or the other. Sometimes he wears glasses but they're simply a fashion statement, not a necessity.

  • PB: Yuu Nikaidou, from Shugo Chara!.

Personality

Vince is a bit of a workaholic. Even though he always ensures that he has a little time for himself everyday, he spends the majority of the day on his job and his education. He does lose sleep over it, but it's pretty hard to catch him yawning, dozing off, or complaining about how tired he is--he simply works right through it. He's well known for being an arrogant, know-it-all asshole. He's not afraid to verbally rip into his opponents when battling, and he's not afraid to correct and belittle someone for saying something that he knows is incorrect. He has placed a lot of importance on himself and the things he does, and because of that (and really, his personality as a whole) he's pretty much been friendless for most of his life. That upsets him far more than he's willing to admit and is really the only reason he's even bothering with DexNet, though you won't ever catch him flat-out saying that he wants to make friends. To his Pokemon, he is strict but only because he feels he has to be. He definitely cares for all of them to some extent, even if a few annoy him, and he can even get really lovey and mushy with his favorite Pokemon.

History

Vince was born into a strict family that placed a great emphasis on education. As soon as they possibly could, his parents enrolled him into a local school with the intention of getting him stay the course and graduate unlike many other people his age who chose to train Pokemon instead. Luckily Vince went along with their wishes easily and spent the majority of his time studying. He did become interested in Pokemon training in his early elementary school years, which his parents vehemently objected to at first, but a compromise was reached when Vince was allowed to take classes at Violet City's own Pokemon Academy during his breaks from regular school and only begin training seriously when he graduated. He did still do some training, mostly in secret, while still in school.

During his time at both schools, Vince's infamous asshole personality was developed. Until high school he was usually referred to by his real first name, Shannon. That name, plus being a generally awkward know-it-all, left him open to quite a bit of bullying. In high school he decided that he would go by his middle name in an effort to avoid trouble but it didn't work out as well as he thought until he was simply out of school for good.

While enrolled at the Pokemon Academy, Vince noticed that his fellow classmates didn't usually take normal type Pokemon as seriously as they did other types. While there were plenty of good ones, pretty much no one trained them exclusively except for girls who liked the cutesy normal-types. That is what piqued his curiosity in the type. It wasn't so much about a love for normal types as it was an attempt to stand out from the crowd and do something that hadn't really been done before that made him decide to train normal types and show the rest of the world that cuteness was not what they should be known for. He knew even before he received his license that becoming a gym leader would be one of the best ways to prove this, so from then on he set his sights on the Goldenrod Gym and trained as hard as he could (without forgetting school). Vince did indeed complete school and graduate when he was 18, almost immediately going off afterwards to train around the Johto region until he felt he was ready to prove himself worthy of being Goldenrod City's gym leader.

Vince attempted to become a member of the gym at the age of 21 before aiming for leadership, but was not allowed by the leader at the time, Whitney, since he was not a girl and his Pokemon were not cute. Out of anger he challenged her to a battle to decide the rightful gym leader and lost, but it was a close match. Vince stayed in the Goldenrod City area for a few more months, training his Pokemon intensively until he felt he was truly ready to win. He did not lose his second battle with her, and triumphantly took control of the gym. He ran all of the previous members out and recruited a couple more that were more serious about battling and normal types that he tracked down in other parts of the world. He didn't change the gym's layout.

Currently Vince is focusing a lot on research as well as training and gym battles. He has actually been met with a lot of criticism recently for not being in the gym to battle very often, especially since he has refused to ever give badge authority to any of the gym members. His Pokemon would probably be a lot further ahead than they are now if he focused all of his research time on training instead.

Pokémon

Chatot

  • How long owned: 10 years.
  • Other: Male. Vince's pride and joy. He does not battle Chatot often, especially not in gym battles, so he's pretty much a pet. Mostly he's just fascinated that Chatot can "talk" (or rather, mimic speech).

Chansey

  • How long owned: 3 years.
  • Other: Female. A Pokemon he spent years searching for. He's totally in love with her and often has to hold himself back from gushing about her in the presence of other people. Vince has never done contests before but he has recently been thinking about entering Chansey in a few.

Vigoroth

  • How long owned: 6 years.
  • Other: Male. Absolutely insane. Vince finds this useful for battles most of the time but outside of battle he wants nothing to do with Vigoroth. He is looking forward to its evolution to Slaking though for its high, well-rounded stats.

Munchlax

  • How long owned: 2 years.
  • Other: Male. Vince is more than a little annoyed at Munchlax for being so expensive to feed, but he's putting up with it for now since he knows it will pay off when it evolves to Snorlax. Is quite far from evolving still.

Miltank

  • How long owned: 7 years.
  • Other: Female. Not as good as she could be despite how long Vince has owned her. She's often used for breeding and milking instead of battling but she is still considered one of his best battle Pokemon.

Eevee

  • How long owned: 6 months.
  • Other: Male. Vince's newest Pokemon and the one he is currently focused the most on. He had wanted an Eevee for years and is ecstatic that he finally got his hands on one. He's trying to train it up as much as possible in an attempt to prove that Eevees themselves can be useful rather than just their evolutions.

He owns many Pokemon, probably around 80, which includes some doubles and mostly ones that are only for research and not training, but he does have four others that are pretty important as he uses them in battles often. Those four are Doduo (male), Bibarel (male), Noctowl (male) and Granbull (female).
