Pokemon: Hit the 'snooze' button and fall back to sleep

From Create Your Own Story

You're sure whatever this big important thing you were supposed to do can wait, so you slam your fist on the snooze button and instantly fall back to sleep...

Hours later, you're awoken by the sound of your mom vaccuuming in the hallway. You let out a massive yawn and sit up, stretching. More sleep was just what I needed, you think. As you start to swing out of bed, you look around your room and spot your calendar on the far wall. For some reason, there's a red circle around today. And then it all floods back...

"Ahh!" You scream as you realize what you've just done. You're late! You look back to your clock to see that you're, in fact, five hours late. "Ahh!" you scream again. Panicking, you quickly throw on the clothes you wore yesterday and scramble out your bedroom door, nearly colliding with your mother outside.

"What's gotten into you?" she asks.

"I'm late!" is all you manage to say back as you run down the stairs and out the front door, all traces of sleep gone from your system. Pallet Town is quiet as usual in the middle of the afternoon, and you're making more noise than anyone as you race down the streets towards Professor Oak's labratory. As you reach the front door, you almost collapse from overexertion. Gasping for breath, you knock on the door.

Minutes pass in what seems like an eternity before someone finally opens. It's Prof. Oak himself, dressed in his usual white lab coat. "Can I help you?" he asks.

"I'm... here... for... my Pokémon..." you manage to say.

"Oh my, I'm afraid I've already given them all away today. You should've come earlier. As they say, the early bird catches the worm, or in the case... the Pokémon."

"But..." Your insides seem to twist and melt.

"Now, now, come inside. Have a drink and catch your breath," Oak says, warmly. "There is... one Pokémon left, now that I think of it," he adds.

Following the Professor inside, you accept a glass of water as Oak's assistant hands it to you. You then proceed to follow him into a smaller room off of the main entrance. On the desk inside, you notice three stands that at one point contained Poké Balls.

"Wait here," Oak says before walking into another room. Moments later, he returns holding a red and white Poké Ball. "I wasn't planning on giving this one out," he says, "but you just look so desparate... This is a Pikachu, a little electric mouse. Only, it's a bit tempermental... What do you say?"

You look at the ball in the Professor's hand. Tempermental? You really don't want your first Pokémon to be difficult, but on the other hand, you still really want your first Pokémon...
