Katie played with the frill of her skirt, nervously waiting for when the bus would arrive. As if it being her first day of school wasn't bad enough, the weather had taken a turn for the worst. It was early September, but it was snowing in the American Northwest! A couple inches had already formed on the ground, and more was falling down. Katie had left her house slightly under-dressed for the weather. Her legs were red, along with most of her skin. Her arms when not busy were busy rubbing each other to warm up. At least it wasn't too bad, it could have been worse than the upper twenties in temperature.
In fact, even though there was some snow on the ground, the asphalt had already melted the snow on it. Puddles had formed around the street, including a particularly large one front of the bus stop. But Katie wasn't focused on that, instead she was thinking of how much warmer it would be inside the school bus she saw approaching. She started stepping forward, unable to wait for the safety of the bus. It was only when she was suddenly presented with a wall of street water when the bus came to a stop in front of her that she realized her mistake. Katie was drenched! Through and through the water had soaked her, through her shoes and even through her skirt into her panties!
The door to the bus opened up, and Katie looked up, gasping as the bus driver apologized "Sorry about that! But I thought you saw the puddle and would move!"
Katie merely nodded, she was WAY too cold to respond with words. Shaking, she stepped onto the bus, still soaking wet. The other students on the bus laughed heartily at her, the situation just too comical not to. Katie couldn't believe that this had happened to her on her first day of school! She began her journey back through the bus, looking for an open seat next, but most of the seats were filled, and those with only one person told her that they didn't want to get wet. It was only at the first back of the bus that she found an open seat next to a boy who smiled at her and moved his stuff off of the chair next to him.
"Thanks." Katie told him, sitting down next to the boy.
"No problem!" he said with a kind smile "You looked like you needed some help."
"Yeah..." Katie admitted with a pitiful grin.
The boy looked out the window as the bus lurched forward.
"Umm, didn't you have a bag?" the boy asked.
Katie's head shot up as she realized that she forgot to grab it when she got splashed! She got to her feet and started rushing forward on the bus, waving her hands at the bus driver.
"Stop! Stop!" she shouted, blindingly running up the bus aisle.
Katie managed to get the bus driver's attention, who slammed on the brakes. Unfortunately this threw off Katie's balance which sent her tumbling forward.
