101: Take A Breath Forest

From Create Your Own Story

Gulping, you calm yourself down, trying to take stock of the situation at hand. Your heart slowly stops racing so much and your head clears, you hear a slight tap as blood from a cut falls and hits a branch, then you hear a cacophony of other sounds. Branches snap, leaves move and some hushed voices from down below, they are distinctly German.

"Ich sage Ihnen Hans, konnte Schmeling in den Hintern treten."

Three German soldiers carrying rifles walk under you, then stop for a smoke. They all wear field caps besides one who has the standard issue helmet. They all seem unaware of your entrance, most likely just looking around. You try your best not to make any noise, hardly breathing and locking your knees, the only thing moving you is the occasional push of the wind. The Germans stand in a small circle and continuing their conversation, the one with the helmet offering them all cigarettes. If you were to fall you would land right in the middle of them.

"Das ist Scheisse, Schmeling ein Fake ist, ich bin die reale Sache."

Speaks one of the men with the caps, a hint of negativity in his tone. You wonder when they are going to leave when suddenly you hear a tap... your blood hit the branch again.

The Germans heard it too, all of their backs suddenly went straight, slowly, they un-sling their rifles and look around, trying to locate the sound. Your heart begins to race again but you try your best to keep it down. Though you are fairly sure the Germans can hear the massive beat of your heart.

"Johan, was zum Teufel war das?"

Says the same man, the one with the helmet lets out a whisper which you can not hear, they look everywhere but up.

"Hans, Dieter, wir besser sich zu bewegen."

Says the one with the helmet, they all nod and slowly walk off, their guns tilting down. When you are sure they are gone, you thank the lord.

Positioning your legs, you take your knife and slowly saw through the cords of the parachute. You cut the third cord and the rest begin to snap, you lose several inches before the final one gives way and you drop to the ground. Your legs take the impact due to your smart positioning and you are fine, though your legs are sore. Carefully, you stand up, find your knife, and look around.
