Weather Tube

From Bubblegum Wiki

Weather Tube is a digital television channel seen exclusively on Taylor Media-owned Stations. The channel is devoted solely to weather forecasts from across the United States and was a direct competitor to AccuWeather and a successor to NBC Weather Plus.

[edit] Background

The channel launched on May 20, 2006. The next day, on May 21, 2006, Taylor Media announced that it would be replacing NBC Weather Plus from its NBC affiliates in favor of Weather Tube, despite of its shutdown (The Weather Tube requested a rate increase from 11 cents per subscriber[1] to 12 cents,[2] a nine percent increase, totalling $140,000 per month for all Dish subscribers) and Weather Tube's decision to move toward news and other entertainment programming.

Taylor Media, Taylor Media Cable, and TaylorStar reached an agreement to continue carriage of Weather Tube on May 24, 2010,[4] even though Dish's concerns about programming remained unaddressed. This agreement led to the launch of Weather Tube, making it one of the shortest-lived television channels in history. The agreement also led to The Weather Channel to produce a local weather information channel for Taylor Media Cable and TaylorSat, as this advisory indicates on Weather Tube channel after its launch:

The WeatherCast is available to Taylor Media Cable and TaylorStar.
