Bubblegum Wiki:Vanity Policies

From Bubblegum Wiki

Vanity Pages are articles about non-notable topics, written either by the subject of the article, or someone who personally knows the subject of the article. The subject does not even have to be a anime character, it could be an inside anime, non-notable band, etc.

As with at Wikipedia and Uncyclopedia, vanity pages are discouraged at Bubblegum Wiki. With vanity pages, the subject is unknown to most people and only the writer of the article finds it funny. (There are many places that don't allow vanity and slander (or slandanity), such as LiveJournal, Myspace, Encyclopedia Dramatica, Anime Wiki, and Code: Wiki.

Generally, when deciding if a page is vanity, we consider:

  • Is it crap?
  • How many yahoo hits does it have?
  • Does wikipedia/uncyclopedia have a page for it?
  • Have any of the anime fans heard of it?
  • Is it stupid?
  • Is it dumb even if you've never heard of the subject?
  • Did you say "MYOB" while you read over it?

Bubblegum Wiki does not allow vanity pages, with a few exceptions:

[edit] Community Sites

Vanity page per community site (forums, linkblogs, etc.) is not allowed. All vanity is constant vandalism, and prevented to spill over. This specifically includes restrictions on dead-linking to nonexistant pages that should not be created, for example, links to every username in a list of users. Sub pages are not allowed, except for user pages.

As with all other pages at Bubblegum Wiki, if the vanity page is low quality or not funny, it is candidate for deletion and CVP'd or killed.

Unwanted vanity pages must be marked with the vanity template. To do this, add the following to the page:

{{Vanity}} or {{Vanity killed}}

[edit] The AM Test for Vanity

Generally, when deciding if a page is vanity, we run the AM testTemplate:Cn:

  • Might Admin's Mum have heard of this group/individual/organization?
    • If the answer is No, the user gets banned. Immediately. and then we delete it as we would any other vanity article.

Yes is not an answer. Go ask Fred Fredburger. He always says "Yes!"

But what if Admin's Mum is not available to ask?

  • In that case, we attempt to discern whether or not she might have heard of it by checking:
    • If it is Anime.
    • How many google hits it has.
    • Whether or not wikipedia has a page for it.
    • Whether or not any of the admins have heard of it.
    • If it is Anime.

If the article fails more than two (2) of the above checks, it is considered Vanity and deleted.

[edit] User Pages

Your user page can have as much information about you as you want. If you would like to do it in article style and write a fake biography, go ahead and do it on your user page. If you create a vanity page thats not on your user page, and the admin who finds it will likely be deleted.

You can get to your user page by clicking on your username at the very top of the page. You must be a registered user to edit your user page.

User pages don't need to conform to the template rules or funnieness standards.

Do not create redirects to your user page from the article namespace. Redirects may be unnesessary.
