Beyond Good and Evil

Beyond Good and Evil is a joint fanfiction written by chuui and Lulu. Its initial creation was simply a desire to play out a few scenes involving Tifa and Reno, the authors' favorite pairing from the game Final Fantasy VII, however as scenes became longer and ideas became more intricate, what began as a simple exercise in drabbling ended up turning into a huge idea.

The very fabric of the FFVII cosmos was going to be picked apart and rewoven. And this time? It was going to get some proper explanation.

After doing some initial research on the many compilations of the original story, the authors began a long and time-consuming effort to put together a timeline of events from the earliest known moment mentioned in the storyline through the events of Advent Children and its preceeding novellas. Beyond Good and Evil draws from the canon of the compilations of FFVII, including Before Crisis, the game itself, Last Order, Advent Children and the novellas. The story does not, however, use any canon from Dirge of Cerberus or Crisis Core. This is firstly because the fic itself was started before either of these games came out and anything was known about them, and the direction the fic itself goes in would subsequently cause continuity problems if Dirge were being taken into account. Rather than rework the story in its entirety to encompass the game canon, the authors chose instead to simply discount the game and write the fic as if the canon sources only encompassed Before Crisis, FFVII, Advent Children, and the novellas. Additionally, in looking the additional canon over, we discovered that Dirge of Cerberus appears to actually contradict a lot of the preestablished canon from its predecessors. Evidence of these contradictions will be cited at a later date.
