From Wassenich Family

Photos of Pastel paintings of the married couple Wassenich/Brandstettnerin. The photos were taken in 1930ties.

The originals are from an artist of St.Wendel, Lauer (born in the mid of the 18th century, died April, 29th. 1824). He was the son of a cartwright from the "St.Wendelers Graben". He should have learned the trade of his father. But he had no pleasure with the apprenticeship and instead he painted with coal heads on walls and tables. They became aware of his talent and he articled to an artist in Trier. Later on he moved from country to country, which provided him good relations. He was passed on an recommended and finally came to the Gallery of Dresden. Later he was in Leipzig and at last in Berlin, where King Friedrich Wilhelm and Queen Louise and lots of the royal retinue have been painted by him.
