Ssnikt

Ssnikts are a race of nearshighted, five-inch fanged, burrowing beetle-like lizards who grow to fourteen feet long, live underneath the cities of other species to devour their dead, and like epic poetry. Nobody knows exactly where they came from; they can only remember back to First Remembrance.
Ssnikt culture is tribal, each tribe ruled by a Chieftain who bears within himself the memories of every being whose brain he has eaten. Chieftains are appointed upon the death of their predecessor, and their consumption of their predecessor's brain (along with all the second/third/eighty-second hand memories IT contains) as part of the ceremony has made the Ssnikt Chieftains some of the greatest historical scholars alive (though many yogamancers who speak with the dead regularly might vie for the title). The main tribe was situated under Citrus City until it was destroyed by Felina and Mr. Big.
