Songs Dedicated to Lukas Peter

From The Extended Group

Songs Dedicated to Lukas Peter highlight the important (and often mythologized) position the man has held in group folklore. Although a significant amount of oral, written and pictorial stories of the Lukas phenomenon have emerged over the course of the past approximately three years, music has become an increasingly favored outlet for some group members--particularly Asher and Kevin.

Nature of Songs

By far the most memorable composition to date is Asher's "Lukas Peter, Friend of the Octopus". Despite the simplistic nature of the melody, the song seemed to capture a perfect balance of humor and ridiculousness, two key staples of the Lukas Peter character, and consequently, is considered by most who've listened to be a work of genius. The series of tracks that followed were produced by Kevin, intended as elaborations upon the minimalist foundations of LPFOTO, while including more complex electronica elements and typically centered upon a 4/4 hip hop beat between 120-140 bpm.

Kevin's Songs

All tracks were composed through the employment of the basic channels of electronic music-- sampling, sequencing, the synthesizer, and the drum machine (with the notable absence to of the keyboard, though electronic keyboard compositions are evident). Although varying from track to track, the bedrock method of synthesizing is induced through the TS404 analog synthesizer. An emphasis on sampling (both melodic, vocal and percussive) is also heavily employed and such roles are often intermixed in accordance with the thematic purposes of the songs.
