Ethnicities and their subsequent steroetypes amongst the Group

From The Extended Group

Contents

Andy

Chinese

  • Stereotypes of the Tsoming family as a hungry, sleepy, apathetic Chinese-American version of the Corliogne family.
  • For his Americanized mannerisms Andy has been accused several times of "tossing his Chinese heritage overboard," including once during a Drawing Game round.

Asher

Jewish

  • Asher is perhaps the most offensively Jewish person in the extended group. Jokes and commentary ranging from the playfully anti-zionist to the downright anti-semitic are often tossed his way.
  • The fact that his first name is one of the twelve tribes of Israel and that his full name can be anagrammed to spell "Christ Lasher" do not help his case.
  • Although it is often just assumed that Asher obeys kosher eating habits, there is a pile of anecdotal evidence suggesting he ate large quantities of sliced ham during elementary school lunch. In another incident at Dennys, Ashers cheese fries came to the table "covered in bacon" which he then ate.

Brett

Octoroon

  • Much is made about Brett's black lineage, which may be responsible for his yellowish "cheese-colored" skin.

Misc. European

  • Lineage of mostly Danish and Irish is usually not talked about, but is likely the source of his mild hemophilia, which afflicted the houses of Romanov and Saxe-Coburg.

Gavin

Scottish

  • Gavin attends a heavily Presbyterian college in Eastern Washington, although this connection to his ancestry is rarely noted.
  • Was parodied in one brief foray into Scottishness [1]

Jamie

Filipino

  • Catholic background, cryptic family life and immersion into work force at an unusually young age are all pointed to as signs of ethnic heritage.
  • Boyish complexion and brownish skin led to speculations that Jamie was ideal jailbait material, leading Owen to his "little chocolate mocha boy" observation.
  • Jamie is often confused with a person of hispanic descent, especially due to his unusual upper lip hair growth. This led Lukas's neighbors to believe they had accepted a Mexican exchange student during the fall of Junior year.

Jeremy

Japanese

  • Although Jeremy is only 3/4 Japanese, this perhaps a defining feature of the Cho family and Jeremy's familial upbringing.
  • Enthusiasm for Japanese food, products, merchandise and video-games (including an almost fanatical devotion to Nintendo and family-type relationship with certain trademark characters).
  • Politeness, especially from Jane Cho, is noted in the Japanese tradition, as with other sentiments, such as an implied stoicism and the general more to "not make waves."
  • Boyhood Peter's adoration of Pokemon, and his gradual shift from "The Wizards" to an "Azn" social group. DDR also stressed.
  • Excessive adorable-ness, including miniature coke and sprite cans (see Cho family being adorable).

Jordan

Misc. European

  • The Henderson family is seemingly uncorrupted in its whiteness, leading some to tie this with their zealous patriotism.

Mormon

  • Stereotypes about Mormon culture led to the conclusion among some that this explained why none of the Hendersons appeared much older than about 20.
  • Long a touchy subject, this idiosyncrasy was always noted among group members but actually almost never ridiculed. Recently Jordan has decided that he wants to enjoy life, so he has strayed from the church.

Kevin

Native American

  • Kevin is a quarter American Indian and he will make sure you find this out.
  • Some bitterness for Native history coupled with nostalgia for pre-Columbian America, esp. in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Interest in bush-craft is genetic. Seriously, he can't help it folks.

Irish

  • Kevin's ties to his Irish heritage, of which is mother is full-blooded, consist of a fascination with his family's coat of arms and a cousin that is reported to be a professional boxer.

Misc. European

  • Not much is known about the rest of Kevin's white lineage, although he shares a striking (near familial) resemblance to Daily Show correspondent Demetri Martin.

Lukas

German

  • Lukas is German on his mom's side, and this is surely one of his standout features.
  • Enthusiasm for eating large quantities of food, especially meets and desserts (although this is probably overstated for the sake of stereotyping) are noted, along with his usage of German when conversing with Beate Peter, and his alleged duel-citizenship.
  • Playful accusations of racism and nostalgia for Nazi Germany are frequently launched at Lukas (given a helpful boost after the discovery of the 1906 Encyclopedia Britannica). Lukas is frequently depicted wearing a swastika arm-band in the drawing game.
  • His love of explosives, and rockets in particular (again, this later feature is almost certainly overstated) has led to comparisons to German rocket scientists like Werner von Braun.

Nathan

Spanish

  • Considered slightly more than half Spanish, this has led to Nathan to occasionally be referred to "The Spaniard" although some hypothesize he's actual Russian.

Owen

Half Japanese, Half Irish

  • Perhaps more than anyone else in the group, Owen is known for his duel ethnic heritage, perhaps most because he comes from two cultures known for their excessive drinking traditions.

Rama

Indian

  • This is extremely noticeable upon meeting Rama, who is about as a brown as humanely possible.
  • The Reddy house was known for smelling strongly of curry, even from its driveway.
  • Indian mannerisms, especially a penchant for "bargaining" are noted among Rama. Many of his Indian habits may be categorized under or related to the phenomenon of Rama being Rama.
  • Rama's dad is rumored to be an eccentric Bollywood director who films 8-hour musical versions of American blockbusters at his studio in California.

Stuart

German

  • This is mentioned occasionally by Stuart himself, as his mother's maiden name (Heller) implies that they once lit street lamps.
  • Perhaps explains his boyish, pale complexion.
  • Once had an enthusiasm for Karl Marx, but this is probably coincidental.

English

  • Unconfirmed. The result of speculation of his usage of British colloquialisms such as "Bloody Buggery" and his habit of sometimes impersonating John Lennon.

Terry

Chinese Cantonese

  • Terry's skin is acclimatized for the hot and humid weather of Hong Kong, resulting in a thick, rhinoceros-like epidermal layer that seems to itch a lot.
  • Frequent Hong Kong trips and enthusiasm for films such as Battle Royale and Shaolin Soccer.
  • Once regarded as "white" Terry is viewed by some as having discovered his Chinese heritage late in life, after his dad took the Lee family to China one winter.
