I'm trying to keep this game as simple as possible, but there is one thing to keep track of : Authority Points.

Pirates are notoriously unruly, and anyone at the head of such a crew must show courage, determination and ruthlessness if he wants to stay in command. Mutiny is a common occurence, and every captain fears it. If you're not too keen to walk the plank or get marooned, you will need to assert your authority. To do this, you must maintain a delicate balance of respect and fear.

Any time you act in a way that earns you the crew's loyalty (acts of bravery, concern for your men's well-being, victories, etc), you gain Authority Points. Sometimes, you will need a certain number of Authority Points to command your men to do something dangerous. Other times, your men's morale will be so low that Authority Points will be necessary to prevent a mutiny. Those points are never spent : the only way to lose Authority Points is to cause the men to hate you or hold you in contempt (cowardice, incompetence, petty tyranny, etc).

It goes without saying that visiting the same page over and over again does not make you earn or lose an Authority Point every time, even if the game's available choices technically allow you to do it. An Authority Point for a specific event can be earned or lost only once per attempt to go through the game.
